Gail Stempel Dunnett – Founder/CEO

Studio D’s founder, Gail Stempel Dunnett has over twenty years experience in the home furnishings and design industry. She melded her passion for interiors with her entrepreneurial business bug in 2003 when founding studio D in San Francisco, then acquiring NY Home Staging company in early 2011, which she plans to parlay into a national staging company opening in major metropolitan cities.

With a finance degree from Wharton, and a strategy consultant background from Bain & Co, she moved to Australia for five years where she started a consumer products company. Upon her return, she joined Exposures Homes, a catalog start up in Connecticut as buyer then VP of Merchandising.

Gail was then recruited by Williams Sonoma for the Pottery Barn Kids Catalog, and after a quick stint there, she once again caught the bug, and left to combine her product sourcing and merchandising skills with her business acumen and real estate interests to form the preeminent home staging company, studio D. With a relentless passion for fetching home furnishings studio D’s creative team has successfully staged and designed over 2,000 properties.

In 2011, Studio D acquired New York Home Staging Company, staging premier NY properties including Anderson Cooper ‘s Penthouse and Kati Perry’s loft. Studio D has appeared on HGTV’s Selling NY and BRAVO’s curb appeal, as well as in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal’s house of the week. Gail and her buyers travel local and abroad to infuse the company with fresh + exciting looks while adding value for Developers, Retailers, Homeowners, and Commercial design clients on both coasts. Gail dons from the East Coast, having lived in NY, Boston, CT, and Australia; now settled in the Bay area. She is an avid runner, skier, and tennis junky with an interest in photography, art + architecture.

Jane comes to studio D with a passion for design and a track record of striking work. Originally inspired by the mid-century pieces that her mother collected, Jane has had a lifelong love affair with interiors.  After a successful stint as an agent at the William Morris Agency representing celebrities for TV stage and film, she pursued her visual passions and has built over 12 years of design experience. In 2002, Jane founded Jane Marvel, a design and manufacturing company of branded home accessories and handbags where her work was showcased in countless magazines from Oprah Winfrey’s O! to Gotham to HC&G. She next moved to interiors, GC’ing and designing several home renovations. Her interior design work has been featured in numerous publications including Architectural Digest and Apartment Therapy among others. Moving to staging was a natural next step for Jane. “We come in for the best part of the process, the part that enables buyers to envision themselves living in a space that has been made to feel warm and inviting.”

This year alone the NY team has staged over $300 million in properties around Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Hamptons. “We look at each job as an individual challenge and art piece: whether a Tribeca loft or an entire townhouse, we work with the inherent bones and architecture of each space to curate the best look for the best return.”

Holly BrHolly1BWSmall[1]yce – Senior Design Associate & Project Manager – New York

Growing up in North Carolina, Holly’s passion for spatial design was apparent at an early age. When she was seven, she discovered the wonder of floor plans and used graphing paper to draw her own. While attending Georgetown University, Holly studied set design and was chosen as the designer for two on-campus productions. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a double minor in Theater and Studio Art, Holly worked with Color Drenched Interiors, an interior design firm in Washington, DC. For the next several years, Holly worked in TV and production in a variety of creative capacities—from producing and casting a yoga show, to hosting a children’s ESL series. She has worked within National Geographic Television’s Story Development group and on Cooking Channel’s digital team as an Associate Editor, where she helped create original content for the site. But her passion for design lead her to studio D, where she engages in the creative process as a stager and content creator for the website.
